After bringing himself into the list of the greatest drivers of all time just behind Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna by winning the pole at the Silverstone based British GP, Lewis Hamilton has just won the race also. He triumphed ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg at the team Mercedes to extend the point gap by over 17 points.

The incident packed British Gran Prix was also rain hit and saw Lewis Hamilton take back to back victories on his home soil in Britain. But it was not an easy race for the reigning world champion who had to overcome a poor start and then rain showers to win the fifth race out of nine races this season in front of the 140,000 strong crowd at the Silverstone.

"I am so happy with that - thank you to all the fans for coming - that one was for you," said ecstatic Hamilton over the team radio as he performed doughnuts on the circuit. Sebastian Vettel, driving his Ferrari completed the podium with third spot ahead of Felipe Massa, who, along with his teammate Valtteri Bottas at the Williams led the race in the opening phase.

Danii Kvyat finished sixth in his Red Bull ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in his Force India. The second driver in the Force India, Sergio Perez finished ninth just behind the Finnish Kimi Raikkonen who was driving the second Ferrari. On the other hand, Fernando Alonso finished tenth in his McLaren-Honda, gaining his very first point in the 2015 season, hence completing the top 10.

Jenson Button was involved in an incident forcing him to retire for for the third consecutive time this season. Romain Grosjean, driving his Lotus collided with teammate Pastor Maldonado, and Fernando Alonso lost the rear of his car in the accident. Max Verstappen, the youngest driver in F1 also had to leave the race as his car spun at high-speed and ended up in the gravel.

While Lewis Hamilton broke the Sir Jackie Stewart's record of leading 17 consecutive races in 45 years, he is now sitting at 194 points ahead of Nico Rosberg who has earned 177 points and Sebastian Vettel at 135 points. On the constructors' table, Mercedes is leading clearly with 371 points ahead of Ferrari at 211points and Williams with 151 points.
