Hamilton wins thrilling British GP, Comes inches closer to Rosberg

Snapshot: Lewis Hamilton won a thrilling race at the Silverstone circuit which started with rains but ended up with shining sun.

Lewis Hamilton had to win this home race, and woo the crowd at the Silverstone track, and he rightfully did so. Yet another incident filled race, the British GP started with a heavy gush of rain, forcing the safety car to tame the race for the first 5 laps. It was a usual affair after that and the non-stop action continued till the end of the race, with Lewis Hamilton winning the third consecutive race, inching closer to Nico Rosberg in the points table.

While Hamilton lead from the front, it was the battle for the second spot between Hamilton's team mate and current point leader Nico Rosberg and Max Verstappen. Nico Rosberg faced some problem, late in the race in the transmission, but ended up gaining the second position, not without trouble though. Reports are that the German is under investigation for taking radio help from his team (the new rules restrict radio communication between teams and drivers).

Only 1.3 seconds separated Nico Rosberg from Vestappen who attained yet another top 3 finish. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo finished a distant fourth, while Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen finished an even more distant fifth. His team mate, and four time world champion, Sebastian Vettel faced a penalty for forcing a car off the track and finished ninth.

Both the Force India cars had another top 10 finish, with Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg finishing sixth and seventh respectively. Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz finished eighth and Daniil Kvyat finished tenth, to complete the top 10 of the 2016 British GP at the Silverstone circuit. The stewards are investigating the communication between Nico Rsoberg and his crew in Mercedes for the depth of information. If he is found guilty, his second spot can be snatched and Verstappen will be handed the benefit.

This is Hamitlon's third consecutive win and with the hat trick, he has won 47 races in the F1, creating a record. He is now the only Britisher after legendary Jim Clark to win three-in-a-row British Grand Prix. With this win, Hamilton has reduced the point gap between him and Rosberg to just 4 points. The latter is at 171 points while the former at 167 points. Kimi Raikkonen is at the third spot with 106 points, followed by Daniel Ricciardo at 100 points and Sebastian Vettel at 98 points.
