Harley Davidson India has unveiled the 2018 range of Softail motorcycles in the country, which include the likes of Low Rider at Rs. 12.99 Lakhs and Deluxe at 17.99 Lakhs (Both Ex. Showroom). The duo is an addition to the four MY18 Softail models launched in October 2017. In addition, the company also announced a price revision for their popular Touring and CVO lineup. The Fat Boy Anniversary edition, alongside the Low Rider and Deluxe, will also be available across stores in India from March 1, 2018 at a starting price of Rs. 19.79 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India).

Harley Davidson is planning to launch an electric bike soon!

At the launch event, Peter MacKenzie, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India and China said, “The Indian market has evolved and customers look forward to innovation in technology and comfort. This is evident from the growth in the leisure riding segment for premium motorcycles. We have received an excellent response to the MY18 Softail® lineup so far and we are excited to introduce these two new models that demonstrate our focus on reinventing products for motorcycle enthusiasts and aspiring riders in the country.” As part of price revision, Road King that was previously priced at Rs. 28.37 Lakhs will now be available for Rs. 24.99 Lakhs, while Street Glide Special that was priced at Rs. 33.50 Lakhs will now be available for Rs. 29.99 Lakhs.

Likewise, the new price for Road Glide Special is Rs. 32.99 Lakhs against the old price INR 35.61 Lakhs and CVOTM Limited is now available at INR 49.99 Lakhs against the old price INR 53.72 Lakhs. The handling of a Softail now enters a new era with a lighter, more rigid frame that elevates form and function to a higher plane, while maintaining the classic look of a hardtail. Benefits of the new chassis include increased lean angles for many models, sharper turn-in response, quicker acceleration, nimble flickability, lighter weight and easier side-stand lift off than previous models. A new high stiffness carbon steel tubular frame forms the core of the 2018 Softail chassis. The frame itself is 65% stiffer than the outgoing Softail design, which leads to a 34% increase in overall chassis stiffness.

There are two unique swingarms, one for narrow and one for wide rear tires. The wide chassis is 5.89 kg (15%) lighter, while the narrow chassis shaves 8.16kg (20%). The models are up to 17kg lighter than before, delivering an improved power-to-weight ratio that provides quicker acceleration, better braking and dynamic cornering capability combined with increased lean angles for many models. All 2018 Softail models get a new powertrain from the most powerful engines ever offered in Harley-Davidson Big Twin cruisers, the new 1745cc Milwaukee-Eight™ 107 V-Twin. It delivers 10 percent quicker acceleration for 0-100kmph mark. Harley Davidson Low Rider and and Deluxe feature ABS as standard safety feature.
