Seems like, the only manufacturer who is making waves in the two wheeler automotive segment right now, is the Hero MotoCorp. New product launches locally and globally, patents, sponsorships and collaborations, as if these were not enough, Hero recently inaugurated its plant in Rajasthan, touted as one of the biggest green facility in India and abroad. The new facility will be the fourth facility of the Hero, joining the current locations of Daruhera, Gurgaon and Haridwar.
Built in collaboration with Architecture firm William McDonough & Partners, the facility is dubbed as the Garden Factory by William McDonough, due to its green features. The plant was inaugurated by Mr Pawan Munjal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of the company. Built with an investment exceeding Rs 550 crore, the new plant in Neemrana, Rajasthan, is spread over an area of 47 acres and will offer direct employment to over 1,000 persons.
Hero MotoCorp envisions a total production capacity of 100 million units by 2020, and the current plant, with its 7.5 million units annual production capacity, definitely takes the Hero's vision, a step forward. The company will also be investing Rs 1,600 crores in a fifth facility near Sri City Industrial Park in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh and a sixth in Gujarat, as some rumors are suggesting.

Talking about the design, the new plant houses some of the latest and first time technologies. Hero MotoCorp Neemrana plant design includes an interior ‘bio-wall’ of vegetation filters contaminants which will induce ductless pressurized air in the facility. Skylights and eye-level windows will help reduce the electricity cost while keeping the nature close to the workers.
On the exterior, an exoskeleton is constructed, supporting the structure above the roof to free up interior space and improving energy efficiency by reducing interior volume so ambient temperatures can be controlled more easily. The roof is vegetated with plants to capture rainwater and reduce the harsh sunlight, reducing air conditioning needs by 20%. Also, the solar panels are employed to produce about 5.5 Megawatts of electricity for the building.
Hero MotoCorp is a respected name in the automotive world and being the largest two wheeler manufacturer in the world, sets example for the world. The new facility will show a new path forward on the interaction between concrete and plants, supporting clean production and enhancing quality of life. William McDonough opines the idea that factories are dirty and had been carried over from yesteryears, but the Hero will change the scenario of production.
The future plans of the Hero MotoCorp are extensive, considering they are lining up investments of INR 5,000 crores over 2-3 years in building capacities globally. The company is also entering various global markets with recents patents in the European and U.S. Hero can also follow the Mahindra's Motorsports line, and the latest tie-up with the EBR, can very well push the plans.
