The high-performance version of Tata Tiago could be named as 'Tiago Plus', reveals a report on ET Auto. Tata Motors has confirmed the performance version of Tiago, while shelving the Bolt Sport which was showcased at 2015 Geneva Motor Show and 2016 Auto Expo. Speculations are rife that Tata Tiago Plus could be launched as early as November this year. However, Tata officials have been mum on the same and have refrained from speaking on it.
Earlier, Tata Motors had plans of introducing a performance version of Bolt, which was named as 'Bolt Sport'. But, the deteriorating sales figure and poor response for the hatch ever since its launch in the country, propelled the company to shelve the new product. The Bolt has been performing quite poorly in the Indian market with an average monthly sales less than 1,000 units. Hence, a performance variant couldn't have made much sense. On the other hand, the Tiago has turned out be a game-changer for the home-grown automaker, with average sales around 3500 units per months and over 40,000 bookings since its launch. Hence, Tata intends to cash on Tiago's popularity amidst the masses and launch a performance variant of the hatch.
The Tiago Plus might be powered by Bolt Sport's engine which develops 118bhp of top power. It is also being learnt that the company might also go for the turbocharged version of its 3-cylinder 'Revotron' powertrain, which currently does duties to the standard version of Tiago. It generates a maximum power of 84bhp and peak torque of 114Nm in the regular Tiago. Tata Tiago Plus would be challenging the likes of Maruti Baleno RS and Fiat Abarth Punto. Though, it might be cheaper by Rs. 1.5-2.5 Lakhs as compared to its foes. Additionally, the company has also plans to introduce AMT gearbox on the Tiago, and as per media reports, it would be launching in the festive season of Diwali around October-November this year.
