When Honda confirmed the development of its Brio-based sub-4 metre sedan with a diesel option, we knew the product would easily climb to the top of the sales chart in very little time. And so came April 2012 and with it, arrived the all-new Honda Amaze compact sedan fitted with a diesel powerplant for the the first time.
As predicted, the company’s cash register bell kept ringing throughout the year and the next and the next. So much so, that Honda Cars India have officially reported to have sold over one lakh units of the Amaze compact sedan this week. The remarkable feat has arrived only after 16 months since the car was launched - making the Amaze the fastest car in company’s history to cross the one lakh sales milestone.
Commenting on the sales milestone, Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice president of marketing & sales, Honda Cars India remarked, “Honda Amaze has witnessed great success in the Indian market and the one lakh sales milestone only validates its strong presence. Amaze has been a game changer in its segment and has enabled Honda Cars India to reach out to a whole new set of customers.”
As a refresher, Honda Amaze compact sedan comes powered in India with a 1.5-litre diesel powerplant that is rated at 100PS and 200Nm and a 1.2-litre petrol unit that puts out 88PS of max poser and 109Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine can only be had with a 5-Speed manual transmission, while the petrol engine can be had with either a 5-Speed manual or a 5-Speed automatic tranny.
