Japanese automajor Honda has some really good products lined-up for the Indian market in 2014. Starting with the new generation Honda City next month, Honda has plans to launch the entry level MPV Mobilio and new generation Jazz in 2014. Now a report published in ET claims that Honda is also planning to launch its highly successful MPV 'Freed' in India. However, it will be the next generation model that will enter the Indian market not the existing one. So, the Freed will be here by 2016.
As mentioned above, Honda will also launch the brio based MPV Mobilio in India by mid 2014, but this will be an entry level MPV against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy MPV and others. The Honda Freed on the other hand will be positioned against the Toyota Innova, which leads its segment in the country.
Currently, Honda and Toyota are working on the next-generation models of Freed and Innova, respectively. So, we can expect all new avatars of both the vehicles hitting the Indian shores at almost same time. Toyota Innova is no doubt one of the most trusted MUVs/MPVs in the country, so it will really be a tough task for Honda to outshine the Innova. And it's not just the pricing on which Honda needs to be really spot-on to challenge Innova, as the buyers of this segment prefer comfort, convenience and drivability over the pricing.
Launched in 2005, the Innova has already sold over 45 lakh units in the Indian market, and what helped it going are the timely updates it received. The last facelift Innova received was in October 2013.
