Honda Cars India limited recorded an annual growth of 83% in its total sales for financial year (FY) 2013-2014. The company sold a total of 1,34,339 units in last FY in contrast to 73,483 units in its preceding year. Domestic sales for March 2014 also increased by 83.4% to a total of 18,426 units as compared to 10,044 units in the same period last year.
With the introduction of its new diesel powertrain, Honda has settled its footprint well in the Indian market. The debut of 1.5-litre EarthDreams i-DTEC engine has changed the company's fortunes and enabled it to explore the potent diesel car market. The debut of Amaze in the compact sedan segment and newly launched diesel-powered City have increased the company’s sales significantly with indications of more to come, post the launch of Jazz and Mobilio MPV in the Indian market.
Presently, Honda offers four models in India – Brio, Amaze, City and the CR-V. The company’s portfolio will soon expand to six models before the end of this year as the Mobilio MPV and the new Jazz are supposed to be launched in the second half of 2014.
