Speaking of legends, the Honda Africa Twins have earned a legendary status for their impeccable Paris-Dakar Rally XRV650 and XRV750 that ruled from 1989 to 2003. The all new CRF1000L, carries this heritage further, and also bestowed by some of the technology Honda employed during its return to Dakar in 2013.
If one remebers Honda showcased an adventure touring concept at the EICMA show last November and then started a Web-Episode series to promote the same just before the Dakar Rally of 2015, the series and the concept were both called "True Adventure". Now confirming that the teased “True Adventure” ADV model will enter production, and it will bear the legendary name tag of the "Africa Twin", as was expected.
Officially designated to be called the Honda CRF1000L, the Africa Twin will be a 2016 model and going by the way Honda has talked about it, Honda intends the CRF1000L to be very capable off-road, and thus not follow the road-going adventure-sport trend.
The company says, “the all-new CRF1000L Africa Twin is set to redefine expectations of just what a large-capacity adventure motorcycle can and should be capable of, both on and off-road, and it opens an entirely new chapter in Honda’s illustrious history of dual-purpose motorcycles made for true adventure.”
With such clear cut addressing of the new bike, it is evident that Honda has the iconic BMW R1200GSA in its sight and has just made sure that the world becomes aware of its intentions. This is surely going to spice up the adventure touring scene big time and no doubt the Bavarian company will be looking at this development with a keen eye. One feature we can expect was already teased on the True Adventure, as Honda has confirmed that the Africa Twin will have option of Honda’s dual-clutch transmission (DCT), which has been specially rebuilt for off-road use.
