Honda India will add the Honda HR-V SUV to its range of cars sometime during the festive season this year. Honda has been contemplating to launch HR-V in India, however low levels of localisation were one of the roadblocks in the plan. However, it has eventually decided to introduce the SUV in India.
It will be routed to India as a completely knocked down unit (CKD) that said the model will be assembled locally, hinting at competitive pricing. The new Honda HR-V will fill the void between the larger CR-V and the smaller BR-V in the company’s line-up. India will get the facelifted model which was updated last year. Dimensionally, the compact SUV measures 4,295 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width and 1,605 mm in height. Besides, it has a ground clearance of 180 mm, slightly less than the Hyundai Creta.
The styling in front is reminiscent of the larger sibling CR-V. The LED-equipped headlight and tail-lamp enhance its visual appeal. At the side, it gets 17-inch alloy wheels. The well laid-out cabin sits on a 2,610 mm long wheelbase. It is expected to pack in a plethora of comfort and connectivity bits such as an infotainment system borrowed from Honda Civic and a panoramic sunroof on the higher grades.
The India-spec model is estimated to get a 1.8-litre petrol engine, somewhat similar to the one which powers Civic. It could additionally get a 1.6-litre diesel engine good for top power of 118 bhp. Reports are rife that Honda could price it below Civic with estimated prices starting from Rs 16 lakh to Rs 17 lakh. At this pricing, Honda HR-V will go against, Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Nissan Kicks and Jeep Compass petrol among other models.
