Honda - The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer has equipped its premium tourer with almost everything that makes the Goldwing - a one of its kind machine. Now, some patent drawings have surfaced online - showcasing two cameras placed on the front fairings, near the headlamps. The cameras will provide the rider with 3D images of the surroundings, specifically the obstacles like other vehicles, pedestrians and animals.

For those not in the know, a stereo camera has two lenses (or more than two) with distinct image sensors for each lens. This set-up makes the camera to simulate human binocular vision and capture 3D images.  The motorcycle's system will take the information provided by the stereoscopic cameras and then it will take precautionary steps like reducing the speed or warning the rider with alarm lights. This technology is called 'Honda Sensing' in Honda cars.

This technology will prove to be a boon for the riders in exhausting long journeys and highway riding, helping them to avoid fatal collisions. This feature will work in tandem with the ABS system of the motorcycle. The safety feature still needs a lot of R&D and Honda seems to be on it, making sure that it works in the real bumper to bumper traffic conditions as well.

It is possible that Honda might display this safety feature in one of the big auto events lined-up for this year. A number of other 2-wheeler giants have started investing in R&D to make their products safer, resulting in the development of some pioneering technologies that can change the way we ride today.
