Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has witnessed a drop of seven percent in its domestic sales number in the month of October 2017 compared to the same period in the last year. The domestic sales of the Honda two-wheelers decreased from 4.7 lakh units to 4.37 lakh units in October 2017 as compared to the October 2016.
The drop in the sales performance during the festive season is surprising, as we usually witness some record-breaking performances from some of the big manufacturer’s across the country. With Honda being the second largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, the numbers seem to be contradicting to the truth.
Honda India witnessed a drop by 5.22 percent in the total sales number including the units sold in the domestic market as well as the exports. The company sold a total of 4,66,535 two-wheelers last month, which is around 25,702 units less than that sold during the same period in 2016. However, the export numbers jumped from 21,789 units to 29,004 units, thus making a growth of 32 percent in exports in the last month compared to the October 2016.
The company believes that increasing the production capacity by 50,000 units per month before the month of September along with its rapid network expansion helped to witness a record performance with sales number crossing the 5.9 lakh unit mark. But, the immediate drop in sales in October has stunned the manufacturer.
Honda India is planning to improve its marketing strategy further along with the expansion of its dealership network. Currently, all four manufacturing plants of the company are running at full capacity, as the company is planning to launch some new products in its line up. The all-new Honda Grazia is scheduled to be launched on November 8, 2017 and the dealers have already started accepting pre-bookings for the new urban sccoter.
