There's a sort of unsaid, but deep relationships between watch manufacturers and Formula 1. Well, after all, you need a high precision machine to document the lap times these insane machines make. And why high precision? Because the difference between each car is merely a few microseconds. And so watch manufacturers keep them associated with this form of sports.
While in the past we have seen watch manufacturers like Rolex and Tag Huer associate themselves with this high adrenaline sport, the latest association will make you go bonkers. Luxury watch maker Hublot has a more exclusive version of the MP-05 LaFerrari, called the MP-05 LaFerrari Sapphire inspired from the engine design of the hypercar, Ferrari LaFerrari.
The impeccable machine was built and developed over a period of 18 months. The MP-05 features a case carved out of sapphire which is machined from seven blocks of sapphire. The total process to build the case alone requires more than 600 hours work. To make the watch movement, 637 minute pieces come into action and the movement "appears to be literally suspended in mid air."
The truly impressive watch has a tourbillon that provides a massive 50-day power reserve. And if the watch needs to be wound the owner can use a miniature power drill, again inspired from the tyre changing tool used in the Formula 1 racing. The band of the watch is as unique as the case and is actually a transparent silicon strap. The clasp has components, again carved from sapphire.
Just so you know, the Ferrari LaFerrari is a hybrid hypercar famous for its performance. The combined output of the LaFerrari from its hybridized powertrain exceeds a massive 950 horsepowers and enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in less than 3 seconds. The hypercar has a top speed exceeding 350 kmph.
And how much dent will the watch put in your pocket if you decide to own one of them? Well, at $300,000 a piece, this watch is more expensive than the Ferrari California T and only 20 units of these will ever be made. So start saving some bucks if you really want to own something exquisite and rare!
