Husqvarna Motorcycles has announced that they will be coming back to the Dakar championship in 2106 with a new factory racing team. As we all know that KTM now owns the Swedish motorcycle manufacturer and so it will be correct to assume that Husqvarna’s rally racing motorcycles will draw huge inspiration from KTM’s unbeatable rally motorcycles. Next year’s Dakar rally will open up with lot of suspense in the air as KTM’s rally rider Marc Coma announced his retirement from racing and is now appointed as the new sporting director of the rally.
Apart from these changes Yamaha has announced that they will be coming up with a completely new rally motorcycle this year. Talking about their return, Robert Jonas, VP of motorsports, Husqvarna Motorcycles said, “We are pleased and proud to be taking the Husqvarna brand another step forward into rally sport. Husqvarna has a rich tradition of racing and this represents an opportunity for us to honor and extend this tradition. The Dakar is the most prestigious rally on the calendar. We’re determined to compete on equal terms with the world’s best teams and we are ready to accept the challenge of rally sport at its finest. We are also very confident that it will be rewarding for our brand and our factory team.” Ruben Faria of Portugal and Frenchmen Pierre-Alexandre Renet will be riding the FR 450 Rally bike for Husqvarna Racing team.
