Hyosung dreams of doubling its sales this year

Hyosung has failed to create a buzz in the market from the time of its introduction in India. DSK Motowheels, which assembles all the Hyosung motorcycles at its plant near Pune, has decided to focus on Gujarat in order to increase its sales for this year to 3,000 units from last year's 1,851 units. DSK Hyosung plans to sell 100 motorcycles in the state of Gujarat in the three months starting from September which will also mark the beginning of the festive season in the state. Presently, the company has two showrooms each in Surat and Ahmedabad and plans to have four additional extension centres to extend its reach to its prospective customers. Hyosung roughly sells 210-220 motorcycles in Gujarat annually.
“Gujarat is a rich state and we see increasing interest for superbikes among young customers. We have planned to open four extension centres across the state each at Rajkot, Vadodara, Navsari and Bharuch,” Shivapada Ray, COO, DSK Hyosung said.
The superbike market in India is expected to reach an annual sales figure of 10,000 units this year. The company also has plans to enter the highly profitable 125-150cc segment with some new launches. These new products will be made at a new plant for which the company is currently acquiring land near Pune again. This new plant is expected to be fully functional by 2016.
