Hyundai India has confirmed to showcase another new sub-compact SUV Carlino by the first half of 2019. The South-Korean automaker officially revealed the information at the launch event of the new generation Hyundai Verna 2017.
Hyundai had previously showcased the concept model of Carlino at the 2016 Auto Expo in New Delhi. With the official announcement of the launch, the production is paced to finish on time. Earlier, it was speculated to get a 1.2-litre petrol engine option, but now the company has officially declared that the model will get a 1.0-litre Turbo petrol engine.
The Indian-spec model will be built on the Hyundai’s 2.0 Fluidic design concept to have a smooth finish with fresh styling. It will have an aggressive stance at the front end with a large cascade grille, sculpted bonnet, large projector headlamps with daytime running LED lights. The side profile will have a fresh styling with creases and cuts at the right places, while the rear features square-shaped tail lights. The interior cabin is expected to have a contemporary look and will feature some high-tech equipment and accessories to aid simpler driving experience.
The power mechanism of the upcoming sub-compact SUV will feature both the diesel and petrol engine options. It will sport a 1.0-litre Turbo petrol engine, to be manufactured in India. On the other hand, the diesel version will feature a 1.4-litre CRDi engine, which produces a maximum power output of 89 bhp against a peak torque of 220 Nm. The engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox to transmit the power to the wheels. Moreover, the option of an AMT will also be available.
The Indian-bound model is expected to be priced in between the range of Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom) and will face a stiff competition against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Tata Nexon.
