Hyundai, ever since shifted their design philosophy to the Fluidic design, has tasted the success like never before, both globally and in India. To add another feather to their crown, they have joined the big league of selling 1 million units of their premium segment Elantra, globally! And why is this such a big achievement? Because there aren't many models that have sold over 10 million units in the history of the automotive industry. As a matter of fact, there have been only ten models to accomplish this feat.
Hyundai Elantra is now in its fifth generation after it was first launched 24 years ago. Sold in the form of a coupe, sedan and wagon, the Elantra has been a Hyundai's top selling model. Sold in some markets under the name Avante, it's one of the top selling cars in the world, thanks to its good looks and brand reputation and now, they touched 10,000,000 unit mark. To give you an interesting insight, Hyundai has sold 45 Elantras every hour of every day of every year since its introduction in 1990.
"Reaching this historic mark is a testament to Elantra's staying power and the global appeal of a vehicle that delivers attractive design, functionality and class-leading performance," said Tak Uk Im, Hyundai Motor's Chief Operating Officer. "As a company it also shows our ability to quickly adapt to changing consumer preferences and continue to push the compact car segment with features once reserved for luxury vehicles."
Some of the other models to feature in the 10 Million Club include: Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, VW Beetle and Golf, and Ford Model T and F-Series.
