Hyundai has launched launched the Elite i20 automatic variant at Rs 9.02 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Hyundai is one of the well known players in the premium hatch segment in the country with its offering Elite i20. Launched in 2014, Hyundai introduced the model in manual variant only and now the Korean automajor has got the hunch that the brand should introduce an automatic version in the growing demands of the Indian market.
Not only this, the company has also updated the Asta (O) version of the Elite i20, which is now equipped with six airbags that makes it the only premium hatchback in its class. The top of the line Hyundai Asta (O) petrol has been priced at Rs 7.76 lakh and the diesel variant at Rs 9 lakh (All Prices, ex-showroom, New Delhi).
Mechanically, the new Elite i20 automatic variant is powered by a 1.4-litre MPi VTVT petrol unit that can produce 99 bhp of maximum power at 6000 rpm along with a peak torque of 132 Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm. Here the automatic transmission incorporated is a 4-speed setup where the drive is transmitted to the front axle.
The Elite i20 Magna automatic have several features like dual airbags, steering-mounted controls, 2-DIN infotainment system with four speakers and USB/AUX/ Bluetooth connectivity, all four doors power windows and flip key. But does misses some features like rearview camera with parking sensors, ABS, height adjustment for seatbelts, alloy wheels, and also the touchscreen infotainment display offered in higher variants.
By launching the automatic variant Elite i20 will be pitted against Honda Jazz CVT, Maruti Suzuki Baleno AT and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. The Elite i20 was the only model that was missing an automatic version in its segment –with other aforementioned rivals.
