Hyundai India is contemplating a factory-fitted touch-screen infotainment system with its Elite i20 hatchback. An AutoCar India report states that the touch-screen infotainment system would only be offered with the top-end trims of i20. Hyundai would launch the factory-fit system equipped i20 in July 2015. Hyundai i20 directly rivals the Honda Jazz, which would also be launched next month, i.e. July 8, 2015.
Hyundai elite i20 has been doing phenomenally well in the country with its splendid exterior design and premium interior cabin with lots of features. But, a touch-screen infotainment system was missing from i20. But now the South-Korean automajor has decided to leave no stone unturned to make it even more desirable by adding that missing element. However, a report indicates that Honda would offer touch-screen infotainment system with the Jazz in range-topping trims, and it might have been prompted Hyundai to do the same with its i20 hatchback. In addition, the base and mid-level variants of Honda Jazz are expected to carry a dial-operated colour screen. Honda Jazz would also be launched in the same price bracket as the Hyundai Elite i20.
Currently, Hyundai i20 is the best volume gainer for Hyundai since its launch in August 2014 as over 1 Lakh units of the new hatch were sold within 7 months. In fact, in March 2015, the company had to ramp up its production in order to bring down the massive waiting period of two months. Just so you know, Hyundai's Chennai plant used to produce around 10,000 units of the Elite i20 hatchback every month, but still it wasn't enough and the company had to increase it by few thousands to cater the demand. Honda Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20 would be the only cars in their segment to feature a touch-screen infotainment system, when they go on sale.
