Hyundai has finally broke into the top 4 ranking of the Top 10 selling cars chart, while the Elite i20 is the first non-Maruti car to break into this position. In April 2016, Hyundai sold only 11,147 units of the Elite i20 than 12,245 units sold in the corresponding month last year, that makes 10.2 percent fall. While this is due to the falling sales of Maruti Suzuki Dzire compact sedan.
This is for the first time in quite a few years that a non-Maruti model has broken into top 4 passenger vehicles sold domestically in India, and despite of the falling sales of the Elite i20 hatch by 10 percent in April, it has jumped on the fourth position. Slipping to the fifth position, Maruti Dzire witnessed its sales fall by 38.8 percent, where the company sold 10,083 units of the car as compared to 16,490 units in April 2015.
The other Hyundai car on the list is the Grand i10, maintaining itself in the sixth position. The company sold 9,840 units of the vehicle than 8,792 units sold in the corresponding month last year, marking a growth of 11.9 percent. Not to forget, the top three positions are still in the hands of Maruti Suzuki, with Alto and Swift hold on the first and second position, respectively, even after a consistent sales decline. Where 16,583 units of Alto were sold in April this year, which is a 23 percent fall from 21,531 units, while Swift saw its sales fall by 15 percent, the company sold 18,444 units in April 2016 as against 15,661 units in April 2015.
Wagon R still continues on growth path with its sales grew by 10.4 percent to 15,323. Maruti Baleno has made its mark in the list, for the past few months as well as in April too, the premium hatch holds the eighth position in the top 10 selling passenger vehicles with 8562 units sold. Renault’s game changing product, the Kwid did well to claim the seventh position with sales of 9,795 units.
