The Datsun GO may have raised the stakes in the entry-level segment, but Hyundai is not one to take it lying down. Hyundai has rolled up its sleeves and is set to launch the Eon with a new 1.0-litre petrol engine. The Eon has been the Hyundai's most affordable product in India, which the company developed specifically for the growing markets like ours. The Eon has always had brilliant fluidic styling, but a somewhat lethargic engine has not really helped it climb the way it should have.

The current Eon is powered by a 814cc three-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 56 BHP and 76 Nm of torque. This range is being enhanced with a new 1000cc version to aid performance and user-friendliness for urban and highway driving. Along with this major replacement, a few other cosmetic changes could be seen on the new Eon.

Hyundai has already been selling the Santro Xing in litre-class segment but reports of the new 1-litre Eon has put up a question over the existence of the Santro post its launch. It is also undeniable that company might introduce the new Eon with 1-litre engine and position it as a range-topping model alongside the current powertrain options, similar to what Maruti did with its Alto range (Alto 800 and Alto K10). However, to know exactly whether Hyundai is planning to shuffle its portfolio or to expand its range further, stay tuned to Autoportal till the company makes any official announcement.
