It's very rare to see a diesel car with an automatic gearbox option, that too when the car is priced under Rs 10 lakh. This is because of an already higher price a buyer has to pay for a diesel version of the car in comparison to the petrol, adding an automatic transmission gearbox with a diesel version will further take its costs higher. But according to BS Motoring, Hyundai India is planning to launch Hyundai Grand i10 diesel in automatic, making it the first affordable diesel automatic car of the country.
The company already has plans to launch a petrol automatic version of the Grand i10 in India by early 2014, while the diesel automatic is expected to hit the Indian shores by November 2014. Both the petrol and diesel automatic versions of Grand i10 are likely to feature a four-speed automatic gearbox, which is also found on the standard i10 and i20.
There will be no change in the engine; it will be the same 1.1-litre U2 diesel with a new transmission option. The diesel powertrain is capable of churning out a maximum power output of 69bhp and 160Nm of peak torque, while the petrol uses the same 1.2-litre Kappa unit found in the regular i10 and i20.
There is no official confirmation on Hyundai's plans of rolling out a diesel automatic version of Grand i10; we will update you on the same as soon as we hear it from Hyundai.
