Hyundai India is all set to launch the new i20 Active crossover in March 2015 in the country. A couple of days back, the new crossover was spotted undisguised during its first photo shoot. Now, the company has also released the first official design sketches of Active i20. The Hyundai Active i20 is expected to share its engine options with the Elite i20 hatchback.
"The i20 Active adopts a 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language- completing a more sporty, sharper and bold look. The 'i20 Active', SUV appearance conveys athletic presence and aggressive side-profile rake," the company said in a statement. "The car combines fun driving, a distinctive character and sporty refinement, with the enhanced practicality and quality," it added.
Hyundai i20 Active flaunts an array of sporty features such as projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, new bumper with redesigned airdam and circular fog light enclosures, and a skid guard. In addition, the inclusion of roof rails and side body cladding make it even more rugged. Increased ground clearance as compared to the hatchback is yet another thing to look forward to.
Quite identical to its hatchback sibling, the i20 Active crossover has been designed at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Germany. The crossover avatar is expected to in-house the same set of petrol and diesel mills, that are on offer with the Elite i20. A 5-speed manual transmission would do duties to the 1.2L petrol motor, while a 6-speed manual gearbox would be linked with the 1.4L diesel engine.
It would challenge the likes of Volkswagen Cross Polo, Fiat Avventura, and Toyota Etios Cross in the Indian auto market with pricing expected to be in the range of Rs 6.5-8 Lakh (Ex. Showroom).
