Hyundai India will finally launch its i20 Active crossover vehicle tomorrow on 17th March, 2015 in the country which will also be a global launch. The company earlier officially revealed the vehicle a couple of days back and is just finished with the media drives. Our team also went to the drive and came out impressed with the sportier version of the regular i20 Elite.
The biggest change in the new i20 Active comes in the form of the exteriors. The crossover, on the contrary gets projector headlamps with cornering lights and LED DRLs. Other changes include redesigned bumpers, both front and rear, skid plates, roof rails, and 16-inch alloy wheels to add sportiness to the car. The ground clearance has also been increased by 20mm as against 170mm of Elite i20.
On the inside, the Hyundai i20 Active will get a dual tone interior scheme with options to choose from blue-black and orange-black. The orange and blue inserts can be seen on the dashboard, door cards, shift knob and seats. The glove box is now air-cooled and pedals will come with faux aluminum. The base theme, though, will be black and one can opt for all-black scheme also.
Under the hood, the crossover will retain the same set of engines from the Elite i20 hatch. While the petrol variants will be a 1.2L engine that produces 82bhp and 114Nm, the diesel unit will be powered by a 1.4L motor that is capable of producing 89bhp and 220Nm. The company has tuned the engines to provide more torque during initial gears. It would be linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
