Largest passenger car exporter, Hyundai has marked a milestone of its premium compact hatchback i20 that has achieved over 1 million units in global sales. First launched in 2008, the i20 was appreciated for its fluidic sculpture design philosophy. It is a “Made in India and Made for the world” product that has also bagged as many as 34 awards where the Elite i20 has been honoured with the prestigious Indian Car of the year (ICOTY) last year.
Speaking on the achievement, Mr Y.K. Mechanically, the engine set up is similar to the regular i20 that offers a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with dual VTVT technology and a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder DOHC diesel power train. The petrol unit is capable to deliver a top power of 81bhp at 6000RPM along with top torque of 114Nm at 4000RPM. The diesel engine, on the other hand, can engender pinnacle power and torque of 88bhp at 4000 RPM and 219Nm torque between 1500 to 2750RPM, respectively. Hyundai i20 Active transmission option comprises of a five-speed manual gearbox mated to the petrol engine and a six-speed manual tranny synchronized to the diesel variants, while the Elite model is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission to maximize fuel efficiency and performance.
