Hyundai Motor India Ltd. today displayed the Kona Electric SUV in Chennai in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr E. K. Palaniswami and other members of the Tamil Nadu government.
In January 2019, Hyundai had promised to work with the Tamil Nadu government’s agenda for the growth and progress of the state, during the Global Investors Summit in Chennai. The launch of India’s first fully-electric Kona SUV is one part of Hyundai Motor India’s dedication to pump in Rs 7,000 cr of investment in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Speaking on the event Mr S. S. Kim, MD, and CEO of Hyundai Motor India said, “It is a moment of pride to share that the Kona Electric – India’s First Fully Electric SUV will be Made in Tamil Nadu from our State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Plant in Chennai. The Kona Electric is an expression of our commitment to the Indian market and bringing Clean Mobility Solutions in India. Hyundai and Tamil Nadu have created many brilliant moments together and we will continue to work towards the betterment of the state, its people and communities.”
He further added, “I am very pleased to share that Kona Electric has received overwhelming customer response and 120 confirmed bookings within 15 days of its launch. This showcases the customers’ acceptance of global EV technologies and faith in Brand Hyundai.”
