Hyundai ix25 compact SUV launching tomorrow in China; Is India Next?

Hyundai, after months of speculations, would eventually launch the ix25 compact SUV tomorrow in China. It is the first market in the world to get this compact SUV and next year, it would also be launched in India. The ix25 concept had its world premiere at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, and the production version is utmost similar to the concept, albeit some subtle changes at the outside. The company has revealed the technical specifications of this compact SUV ahead of the launch tomorrow.
 
 
Dimensionally, Hyundai ix25 compact SUV measures 4,270 mm, 1,780 mm, and 1,622 mm in length, width and height, respectively. It also has a wheelbase of 2,590 mm, while the fuel tank capacity is said to be 60 litres. The compact SUV has a ground clearance of 183 mm; although, it is 180 mm with the top-end variant. Top-of-the-range ix25 variant comprises of 17-inch wheels with 215/60 section tyres. As for the safety of the occupants inside, it would boast several top-notch features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Assist System (HAS), and Airbags. However, most of these features would be limited to top-end trim only. As far as comfort and convenience is concerned, Hyundai has incorporated an array of contemporary features inside the cabin, in form of Powered and Heated seats, Automatic AC, Rear AC vents, Cruise control and a Multifunction steering wheel.
 
 
In China, Hyundai ix25 would be launched in petrol fuel trim only. It would come with two engine options - 1.6L and 2.0L petrol engines. The smaller motor of 1.6L would generate a maximum power of 122.8 bhp at 6,300 rpm with 50.7 Nm of torque at 4,850 rpm. It would be paired with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox with a 2WD drivetrain. The bigger and much powerful 2.0L petrol engine would churn out 158 bhp at 6,500 rpm of top power, while delivering a peak torque performance of 192 Nm at 4,800 rpm. Unlike, the 1.6L engine, it would be having both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. The top speed of top-end variant would be 187kmph, which would be highest in the entire range. Hyundai India has commenced the test runs of the compact SUV in the country, which clearly indicate that its launch is impending, around next year. It would rival the highly successful Renault Duster, recently launched next generation Mahindra Scorpio, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano. It is expected to be priced in a range of Rs. 7.5 - 11 Lakhs.
