Hyundai India would launch three fresh products in the country in 2015. First, the Verna facelift would be launched next month (February), then the Elite i20 based crossover would arrive around April-May and finally in the festive season around October-November, the South-Korean automajor would present the ix25 compact SUV. Recently, the ix25, Hyundai's first compact SUV to be launched in India, was spied testing in Chennai near company's production facility with full camouflage.
Hyundai ix25 was launched in China first and now India would be only the second country to get this compact SUV. Reportedly, Hyundai India has made an enormous investment of Rs. 1000 crore for the ix25 project. The company intends to offer the vehicle in both petrol as well as diesel fuel trims. It is expected that the diesel variants of ix25 would have a 1.6L motor, which would be borrowed from Verna and Elantra. Also, the company could also introduce a 1.4L diesel motor with the entry-level variants of the compact SUV, just like Verna, to keep the costs in check. Hyundai has also said that, apart from the ix25 compact SUV, it is planning to localize manufacturing up to 90 percent for other couple of yet-to-be-launched vehicles such as Elite i20 Crossover and a MPV which would come out in 2016.
Measuring around 4.27 metres in length, Hyundai ix25 would directly lock horns with the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra Scorpio. Also, Ford EcoSport top-of-the-end variants would be in picture as well. Recently, the ix25 was crash tested in China and without any surprises, it scored a perfect 5/5 safety rating. Being codenamed as GS for Indian markets, it is expected to be priced in a range of Rs. 8-10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India).
