It is being believed that Hyundai India would foray into the gold-digging compact SUV segment in August-September 2015 with the launch of its new ix25 5-seater crossover SUV. However, the company hasn't officially confirmed the launch period and has refrained from speaking on this. But, prior to the launch, the Hyundai ix25 compact SUV has been spied in production-ready form during its test runs with heavy camouflage near Okhla, New Delhi by our avid reader Mandeep Singh.
It is being learnt that Hyundai India has shelled out nearly Rs. 1000 Crores in the development of ix25 project and it is being codenamed as 'GS'. In addition, some reports suggest that the India-spec model of the compact SUV might be getting a new name. Just so you know, China is the only country where the Hyundai ix25 is currently being sold. The company is eyeing a 90% localization for the compact SUV to make its pricing extremely competitive and belligerent. It would be up against the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Maruti SX4 S-Cross. The ix25 compact SUV would come loaded with an array of exquisite features such as projector headlights, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, music system with steering mounted controls and electrically adjustable wing mirrors.
Talking about the engine options, it is being widely speculated that it would have the same set of engine as the new Verna sedan in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants of the Hyundai ix25 would be powered by the 1.6L, 4-cylinder motor, while the diesel variants would in-house the 1.6L, 4-cylinder powertrain. Also, there would be a price-cut base variant in diesel guise, which would come loaded with a 1.4L, 4-pot engine. The same 1396cc engine also does duties to the entry-level variant of the 2015 Hyundai Verna. However, it remains to be seen whether the South-Korean automajor offers automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive with the crossover in India. Hyundai ix25 price would be in range of Rs. 7.5-10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) in the country.
