Hyundai has revealed the Kona Electric at the Auto Expo 2018. The company is expected to launch the compact electric SUV in India as a completely knocked down unit (CKD) sometime in 2019. Contemplating the high demand for SUVs in India, Hyundai thinks, it is right time to introduce the model in the Indian market.
In terms of design, the Hyundai Kona EV is heavily inspired by the standard model, styled aggressively with its SUV-ish character. Up front, the model features sleek headlamps, which flanks the trapezoidal grille. While the sides are marked by strong shoulder line, blacked out roof rails and multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the back, it sports wraparound tail-lamps and fog lamps.Overall, the Kona Iron Man EV is visually more appealing than the standard model, all thanks to the additional elements inspired by Marvel Universe’s superhero, Iron Man. The matte black finish on the SUV and splashes of maroon on the bumpers, side skirting and roof give it a sporty flair.
As for the proportions, the Iron Man edition is 40mm wider than the standard model and rides on a meaty 19-inch alloy wheels that come with the superhero’s mask. It was reported earlier that Kona would be launched in India with the traditional engine options and will be slotted between Creta and Tucson in Hyundai India’s line-up, albeit the company has changed it plans and is keen on bringing the electric version. For those not in the know, the Kona SUV was first revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
