With the post launch of the Hyundai Creta in the mid-2015, reportedly Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) was also working on a sub-4 meter SUV that would rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport, the Mahindra TUV300 and the upcoming Maruti YBA, and the brand HMIL will reveal the compact SUV at the Auto Expo 2016, or any event prion to it.
This Compact SUV will be built on the Hyundai i20’s platform, that means it will borrow some of the cues from the i20. The SUV will be offered with front-wheel drive arrangement that will draw power from the same engines used on the i20. So the engine will be powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol with Dual VTVT and the 1.4-litre CRDi diesel, where the petrol motor will be connected to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the diesel engine gets a 6-speed automated manual transmission.
The brand is likely to unveil the design of the product by showcasing the concept at the upcoming Auto Show in February, while the market launch will take place within this year. It is expected to price a bit more than the i20 Active.
