Ever since its launch in August, 2014, the Elite i20 has had huge fan following. The sales numbers have sky rocketed and increasing demand has not witnessed any change. In just a period of seven months, one lakh units of car have been sold. There is a huge waiting period of two months for certain well-selling models of the car.
To meet the needs and in order to satisfy more customers, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has decided to ramp up the production of the car, The monthly production capacity of the car stands at 10,000 units at present. Senior VP - marketing and sales, Rakesh Srivastava, says "The plant is producing (the i20) at full capacity. It will be ramped up by a few more thousand." This should help increase the sales numbers even further and reduce the waiting period further.
The base variant of the Elite i20 petrol is priced at INR 5.23 lakhs and the diesel variant starts from INR 6.36 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi. The car has done exceedingly well and is only second to the class leader – Maruti Suzuki Swift.
Hyundai has also started offering the crossover - Hyundai i20 Active. The car uses the same platform as the Elite i20 but would cater to a set of customers, who seek ‘Go Anywhere’ capability. Along with major cosmetic changes in the interiors, bumpers and other parts, Hyundai has also increased the ground clearance of the car by 20mm which lends the car its needed capability to compete with other cars in this segment.
