Hyundai India has unveiled its upcoming compact SUV, Hyundai Venue in the country. The model was simultaneously previewed at the 2019 New York International Auto Show on April 17, 2019. Speaking at the Unveiling of Hyundai Venue, Mr. S S Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “Today we are glad to unveil the Hyundai VENUE - India’s First Connected SUV at the most unique Venue. Besides, the Hyundai Venue will be offered with 3 Years/unlimited km Warranty and 3 Years Road Side Assistance. It will also offer the lowest cost of maintenance with a doorstep service facility.
Built on Hyundai’s signature design tenet, the SUV has a bulky stance highlighted by elements such as chunky wheel arches, sharp character line that runs across the length of the vehicle to the tail lamps. The front gets the quintessential bold mesh pattern grille. Under the hood, it gets the all-new 1.0-litre, Kappa Turbo (T) GDI petrol engine along with a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and a 1.4-litre oil burner. In terms of output, the new 1.0-litre Kappa unit makes 120 PS against 17.5 kgm, whereas the 1.2-litre petrol engine belts out 83 PS with 1.7 kgm torque and the 1.4-litre oil burner, 90 PS against 22.4 kgm torque. Hyundai Venue is the first model from Hyundai India to get an indigenously built 7-speed DCT gearbox, which will be offered with the 1.0-litre Kappa unit. It also gets 6-speed and 5-speed manual units that will be available with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine respectively.
Dimensionally, the compact SUV measures 3,995 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,590 mm high. It sits on a 2,500 mm long wheelbase, hinting at a spacious cabin. The list of features includes an electric sunroof, wireless phone charging, air purifier, cruise control to name a few. It is built with 69 % Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and High Strength Steel (HSS), which provides it prominent Static & Dynamic stiffness with improved structural rigidity.
The high point of India’s first Smart connected SUV is the ‘Hyundai Blue Link’ which comes with an in-built and tamper-proof device powered by Vodafone-Idea eSIM and a Cloud-based Voice Recognition platform from Global AI (Artificial Intelligence) Company. It additionally packs 33 features including 10 India specific features that promise practical and holistic connectivity with Safety, Convenience and various Vehicle Management Relationship Services. One must note, the Blue Link services will be complimentary for the first 3 years, after which customers can renew them. Hyundai will train 9,000 Dealer Service Manpower for customer queries related to Blue Link Services at Hyundai dealership and service touch points. The company will also install a Blue Link Simulation app across dealerships to give their customers a connected in-car experience.
