The new generation Hyundai Verna is all set to be offered with a smaller engine, featuring a 1.4-litre petrol engine. Its price is most likely to start from Rs. 7.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The all-new Hyundai Verna was introduced last year with a 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options. Since its launch, it has been one of the most popular mid-size sedans in the country and its sales performance has been praiseworthy as well. The company is now looking to introduce a smaller capacity petrol engine into the existing line-up, which is expected to be made available from January 10, 2018.
The new generation Hyundai Verna is based on the Fluidic design philosophy and is built on the K2 platform. Apart from the mechanical changes, no visual changes are made for the smaller engine variant. The 1.4-litre petrol version is offered in 1.4E and 1.4Ex variants. The base variant, 1.4E gets dual airbags, ABS, projector fog lamps, a trip computer, rear AC vents and a rear centre armrest. On the other hand, the 1.4Ex variant additionally features a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with four speakers.
This new variant of the 2018 Hyundai Verna features a 1,398cc motor that is capable of producing a maximum power output of 98.6 bhp against a peak torque of 134 Nm. It is the same unit that we have seen in the Hyundai i20. The engine is to be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The existing 1.6-litre petrol engine is more powerful, which develops a maximum power output of 121 bhp and a peak torque of 151 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel guise with 1.6-litre motor produces a maximum power output of 126 bhp against a peak torque of 260 Nm. The transmission options include a six-speed manual and automatic gearbox.
Currently, the starting price for the Hyundai Verna is Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base model and goes up to Rs. 12.88 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-end variants. It competes with the likes of Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Ciaz and Skoda Rapid in the Indian market.
