The luxury division of Hyundai - Genesis will be coming to India very soon. Currently, the South Korean automobile manufacturer is evaluating the market prospects as well as it will unveil this brand with the SUV.
At present, the Genesis line-up worldwide contains sedans, namely G70, G80 as well as G90, though, it will soon have two SUVs. First SUV will be GV80 - based on Hyundai Palisade/Kia Telluride, it will be a sister to G80 sedan and second will be small GV70 sharing the underpinnings with the next-gen Tucson.
According to the sources, Hyundai believes that SUVs will be a great launch vehicle for introducing its luxury division - Genesis in the country. With an SUV along with luxury, the carmaker will be definitely in a good position to justify as well as command the decent premium. Hyundai has to make a case for Genesis in India as well as set a tone for its upcoming products.
In addition, the brand is too interested in bringing the Genesis products in the country through the CKD route in order to prevent heavy tax amount over the imported units. Sources have also confirmed that it would be a great option. In case the CKD operations will be successful for Genesis, similar to Hyundai Kona Electric then it will surely be a success and prevent the pricing itself as Toyota did the same with the Lexus division.
Till now, as such no information has been provided on SUV, unlikely it looks GV80. On the contrary, the GV70 is based on Tucson platform and thus it will have an RHD option and assembly capability that already exists within India.
Indeed, the Genesis GV70 will be a launch vehicle for Genesis, so it is expected to be here in 2020 or maybe later since Hyundai has slated the Genesis GV80 launch in 2020. Manufactured in 2017, the luxury division was renamed as ‘Hyundai Genesis’ the G80 and using the nomenclature of the model as a marque for this luxury brand.
