The South Korean automobile company, Hyundai Motor, has been working on the top end variant of Hyundai i20 hatchback, the Hyundai i20N. This new version is expected to hit the roads by 2018. However, this Hyundai i20N will be making its appearance after the complete launch of i30N and the Veloster N in the global arena.

The designing concept and other essential physical elements of this new Hyundai i20N will take designing cues from the recently spied facelifted version of i20 in Europe.

Mechanically, the Hyundai i20N will be powered with a 1.6 T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine that will be able to generate a maximum power of 210 bhp and a peak torque of 265 Nm. This engine is expected to be mated with a 7-speed DCT (automatic) gearbox. However, a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox would also be considered as it a good option for such a powerful hatchback. Moreover, it would even please the four-wheeler enthusiasts as well, who might be in search of more transmission arrangements.

The facelifted Hyundai i20 will most probably be making its first public appearance in India at the Auto Expo 2018 in February. The Europe-based version of the same is expected to be unwrapped at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. However, the unveiling of the Hyundai i20 is subject to a lot of uncertainties and many automakers have planned to pull out of event considering that it plays little or no role in the company’s promotional strategies.

The Hyundai i20N will face a stiff competition from the likes of Ford Fiesta ST, VW Polo GTI, Peugeot 208 GTI and the Renault Clio RS. Through this venture company wants to expand their forte from regular C-segment sedans and step out of its regular comfort zone and give a stiff competition in the segment of hatchbacks as well.
