Jaguar has finally graced the 2014 Paris Motor Show with the global mid-size saloon - 2015 XE, which supposedly would also hit the Indian shores by the middle of 2015. It had its world premiere in the UK sometime back, but several details regarding the variants, pricing and deliveries were unknown. These details are now revealed by the company at the Paris Motor show.
The rear-drive XE is the only vehicle in its class to use an aluminium-intensive monocoque. It is also the smallest, lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamic Jaguar saloon ever built. The Jaguar XE would be offered across five trims - SE, Prestige, Portfolio, R-Sport, and S. The SE would be the entry-level trim, while the F being the top-end trim. Premium comfort features such as Satellite Navigation, cruise control, 17” alloy wheels, DAB digital radio and multi-function softgrain leather steering wheel are standard across the entire XE range. The top-end trims feature company's new Intuitive InControl infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen. Inside the cabin, the contour-hugging front seats are mounted low, creating a sports-car like driving position with heating and cooling options and 14-way power adjustment. The rear seats may also be heated and can offer a 40:20:40 split-fold – a first for Jaguar – and a through-loading feature. The new XE is the first Jaguar to use EPAS (Electric power steering) and delivers the immediate response and connected feel expected of a Jaguar sports saloon.
The first Ingenium engines in the Jaguar XE are 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesels with a choice of two power and torque outputs: 160.8 bhp and 380Nm & 177.6 bhp and 430Nm. The 160.8 bhp version makes the XE the most fuel-efficient Jaguar ever, achieving around 26.5kmpl. The range-topping S trim would in-house a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 powertrain, sourced directly from the F-type Coupe, which would deliver 335 bhp of top power and 450Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine range begins with the turbocharged, direct-injection, 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit. This refined, lightweight powerplant is available in two ratings: 197 bhp and 280Nm & 236.7 bhp and 340Nm. The engines would be mated to a 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, while in Europe, the company has also introduced an all new 6-speed manual transmission. However, it is not certain that whether it would make its way in India or not.
The 2015 Jaguar XE is priced in a range of £29,775 - £44,870 (Rs. 29.71 - 44.77 Lakhs). However, the prices may differ a bit when it arrives in India. In UK, new Jaguar XE is available to order from UK company dealers from October 2, 2104.
