Mitsubishi has published a first teaser image depicting the all-new Pajero Sport. The vehicle will be making its public debut on August 1 during this year’s edition of the Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale and from what we can see in this darkened official image, it’s bound to receive an entirely new design. Gone is the rugged appearance of the outgoing model as the designers have decided to implement Mitsubishi’s latest design language which will provide the SUV with a more upscale appearance.
It will benefit from the so-called Dynamic Shield front fascia so expect a generous amount of chrome and a prominent front grille flanked by sweptback headlights incorporating thin strips of LED daytime running lights. It won’t look as boxy as the current car as Mitsubishi’s designers have used more rounded surfaces to give the 2016 Pajero Sport a more modern look, but we are not entirely sure fans of the model will like this since many have acquired the vehicle for looking robust and rugged.
Mitsubishi hasn’t released any technical specifications concerning their new Pajero Sport, but most likely the off-roader will be largely based on the Triton pickup truck which in some markets is sold with the L200 moniker. As a consequence, expect the engine lineup to vary depending on where the vehicle will be sold, but we expect the Indian version to feature a four-cylinder, 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine which could be offered in two different states of tune: 128 bhp and 240 Nm along with a beefier variant pushing out 178 bhp and 400 Nm of torque.
In other countries, the Pajero Sport (aka Challenger) will probably receive a 2.4-liter gasoline engine rated at 128 bhp and 194 Nm along with a new 2.4-liter turbodiesel delivering 154 bhp and 380 Nm in the standard configuration and 181 bhp and 430 Nm in the high-output variant.
