Skoda has commenced the series production of new-gen Octavia sedan its flagship manufacturing unit in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. The company has set a target to roll out nearly 1150 units of the sedan per day in order to meet the rising demand and keep the waiting period in check. Being the best seller in Skoda's portfolio, the Octavia is placed in the D-segment of sedans while it rivals the likes of Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla Altis.
Globally, Skoda Octavia is available in two body types: Sedan and Estate. The latter is hugely popular in Europe while the former has greater acceptance in the Indian market. Speaking of the 2020 Skoda Octavia, it flaunts a sharper design while taking styling inspiration from the global models of Scala hatch and Kamiq SUV.
It is also bigger in dimensions than the ongoing model. The company has announced that it will also introduce the sportier RS model and Scout variants of the sedan next year. In addition, there will also be a plug-in-hybrid variant too on offer.
As far as the Indian market is concerned, Skoda is said to be launching only the sedan body type. It could well be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in February while launch could happen at a later stage.
The engine options might include a new BS 6 certified 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine while the 2.0L diesel unit will be retained from the current model, albeit with an up-gradation to BS 6 emission norms. 2020 Skoda Octavia could be priced in a range of Rs 17-25 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India) in the country upon its launch.
