The production-ready BMW sedan, unofficially referred the “BMW 1-Series” has been spotted doing test rounds in China, with fewer camouflage wraparound than before. The concept sedan was revealed at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2015 and, reportedly the model could make its world debut at the Beijing Auto Show 2016. This model is based on the UKL (a modular architecture to suit a range of front and four-wheel drive models) platform.
On a closer look, the images reveal an exterior design, that draws heavy inspiration from the BMW Compact Sedan Concept, the company unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2015 . In the image, the prototype also features the production-spec bumpers, headlamps, dual exhaust pipes, LED taillights, which are similar to that of the concept version.
Talking about the power-pack, , the engine lineup is likely to be same from the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, which includes a 1.5-litre three cylinder turbo petrol engine that will churn out 135 HP of power, a 2.0-litre three cylinder turbo-diesel engine delivering 150 HP, and 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine dishing out a 231 HP of power. These motors are likely to be paired with a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed ZF automatic.
As of yet, BMW India has not confirmed plans of launching the BMW 1 Series Compact Sedan in the country. But it is likely to consider selling the models here, as the demands for the compact luxury model is good in the country and is only being met by the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3 Sedan.
