2015 Volvo XC90 has been spotted completely undisguised at a snowy European mountain along with the current-generation model, ahead of its much awaited India launch. The company would continue selling the current model in China under 'XC Classic' badge. The new Volvo XC90 first edition received a thunderous response from buyers all across the nation as it was sold out in less than 48 hours after going on sale.
Being based on the new SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture), the new Volvo XC90 measures 4,950 mm in length, 1,923 mm in width and 1,776 mm in height. It had its global début at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014. The India launch is yet a couple of months away, but the company had started the sale of this new model in September 2014, worldwide. And, as told earlier, the first set of 1927 units was sold within 47 hours. The exclusive first edition comprised of an Onyx Black exterior, 21-inch wheels, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system and Nappa leather upholstery.
New Volvo XC90 comes in three fuel trims - Petrol, Diesel and Hybrid. But for India, the company, in most likelihood, would offer a diesel variant powered by a 2.0L, inline, 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged motor which would be good enough for a maximum power of 225 bhp and 470 Nm of peak torque. It would be linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission, dispersing power evenly to all the four wheels of the SUV.
It would be up against the likes of Audi Q7, Mercedes GL, BMW X5, and Land Rover Discovery in the country, while bearing a price tag of approx. Rs 85-95 lakh (Ex. Showroom).
