You probably know by now that Maruti Suzuki will launch the all-new Baleno in our country this month on the 26th, but what about a sporty version? We haven’t heard anything about this so far, but that hasn’t stopped independent artist Theophilus Chin for coming up with a digital makeover that shows a few body add-ons that make the Baleno look racier.
For example, he installed side sill extensions and modified the front fascia while at the back there’s a roof-mounted spoiler along with a chrome finish for the dual exhaust tips that flank a faux diffuser. The red body is nicely contrasted by the silver side mirror caps and a chrome strip that runs across the side profile and blends nicely with a similar finish up front in the air vents.
Don’t hold your breath for a truly sporty version of the Baleno as it’s unlikely to happen since it would turn out to be a niche model, so it would not represent a viable business case for Maruti Suzuki. If by any chance it will actually be launched, expect the Baleno Sport to use either the 1.6-liter engine from the smaller Swift Sport or the new generation 136 bhp 1.4-liter BoosterJet turbocharged gasoline motor taken from the S-Cross sold in China.
As for the regular Baleno, it will be offered with a choice of two engines: a 1.2-liter VVT gasoline unit with 84 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm or a more economical 1.3-liter DDiS diesel producing 75 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm at 2,000 rpm.
It is believed Maruti Suzuki is already taking orders for the new Baleno which carries a starting price of Rs 25000 for the entry-level model. If this hypothetical Sport version will ever come true, it will obviously cost a lot more to justify the beefed up appearance and the stronger engine.
