India-spec Honda Civic Unveiled, Launch Likely in FY2019

Honda has revealed the 10th generation Civic that will be introduced in India sometime in FY19. The all-new Civic receives minor styling changes on the outside. It gets a new front ‘wing’ finished in piano black which replaces the chrome bar seen on the pre-facelift version. The bumper in front gets a new design and the fog lamp housings get chrome finishing. A hint of chrome can be seen at the back as it gets a chrome strip on the bumper. It also gets new alloy wheels that complete the look. The international model gets an additional ‘Sport’ variant that boasts of 18-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, a splitter style rear bumper and other bits.

The interiors get no styling update, though it receives an updated 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is supported by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features on the new Civic now include Honda’s Sensing suite tech which comprises of a collision warning and mitigation system with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control and lane departure.

On the mechanical front, the India-bound model is likely to get a 1.8-litre petrol engine good for maximum power of 140 bhp and Honda’s 1.6-litre Earth Dreams oil burner that emanates 120 bhp against 300 Nm torque. For those not in the know, this is the same engine that will power the new-gen Honda CR-V. The new diesel unit could come with the new nine-speed automatic gearbox that will be offered on the new CR-V.

We expect Honda to launch new Civic in India during the first half of 2019. Upon its launch, the model will field against Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia and Hyundai Elantra in the premium sedan segment. In terms of pricing, the India-bound Honda Civic could fall between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. While the new-gen Amaze has already been launched, Honda is now prepping for the launch of its long-awaited, all-new Honda CR-V in October.
