Skoda is keen to make a strong impact in Indian market with new products and as the most important part of that strategy, the Volkswagen owned Czech car brand will launch its India-specific midsize SUV that will be made in India and made for India as well. The SUV will mark its global debut in 2020 and it will hit the showrooms across the country by in the first half of 2021.
The new SUV will play integral part in Skoda’s INDIA 2.0 project and the automaker will invest one billion Euros for this project, which is going to be one of the largest investments in the country’s auto market. Apart from the midsize SUV, Skoda will also develop more new models keeping the Indian market in focus and all of these products will be built locally in order to achieve competitive pricing.
Volkswagen has already cleared its intention to become the affordable premium car brand here and Skoda has been given the responsibility to take the leading role in that strategy. The automaker is currently working on a new localized version of the MQB A0 platform that will underpin the upcoming midsize SUV and all the future Skoda models.
Skoda says this localized MQB A0 architecture will help the band to produce cars complying with upcoming stringent emission norms and safety standards. Apart from offering more localized and India-specific models here, Skoda plans to create around 5,000 new jobs as well under its INDIA 2.0 project.
