It was an Indian Scout on which Burt Munro broke the land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats on numerous occasions in the 1960s. Especially in 1967, when he set an unofficial record by doing a top speed of 205.67mph (331kmph). Indian stopped making Scout in 1949, but the legacy lived for decades to come. Well, Indian has finally decided to make the legendary Scout rise from the ashes. At the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally held at South Dakota, Indian unveiled the re-birthed version of its Scout. The new avatar is 1,130cc, 100bhp powerful, liquid cooled, lightest in its class and is 'first new Indian Scout in 70 years'. The looks are very minimalistic and that's the high point for us. Nothing that is not required. Indian also claims that this all-new Scout will come studded with excellent power delivery along with superior handling which ideally should make it an instant hit among all kind of riders. The wheelbase is 156cms and ground clearance is a decent 13.5cms. The bike also boasts of features like adjustable rear shocks, six-speed transmission, carbon fibre belt, 16 inch rear wheel, 150mm rear tyre and 298mm discs at both the ends.
On the occasion of unveiling the bike, Mr. Steve Menneto, Vice President of Motorcycles, Polaris Industries said, “Over the course of 30 years of countless innovations, racing wins, world records and industry firsts, the Scout has earned its reputation as a versatile, multifaceted bike that appeals to just about every rider and every riding style, with superior handling, balance, performance and craftsmanship. Our designers and engineers have taken that heritage and those characteristics and fused it into the 2015 Indian Scout, and we think just about everyone who rides this incredible bike is going to feel like it was built just for them.”
Indian has started taking orders online for the new Scout and the bike is expected to arrive dealerships including the one in Gurgaon, Haryana by the end of this year. It will be available in following colour schemes: Thunder Black, Indian Motorcycle Red, Silver Smoke (matte) or and Thunder Black Smoke (matte), and will be available in America for $10,999.
