We are well aware that Honda is determined to crack the bike segment from 300-700CC in India and will soon start assembling its new CBR650 locally for the same. Though which of the Honda's 3 plants in India will be assembling it is yet unclear. Just recently the bike was shown to dealers and we are expecting that if not declaration of launch, at least the bike will be shown to public with an expected launching time in this year.
"We announce that (from) next year Honda will start making CBR -650 in India. By this, we will not only open up the skill of our existing manpower but it will also showcase the Honda India's manufacturing quality to the world," HMSI Vice President Y S Guleria told reporters some time ago on the sidelines of a foundation stone laying ceremony for its upcoming plant at Vithalapur in Ahmedabad district.
The Honda CBR 650 has a 649cc inline –four engine producing 87 bhp@11000 rpm and a whooping 63Nm @ 8000 rpm. With a tank capacity of 17.3 litres, and a fuel efficiency good enough to be around 20 -25 kmpl, the CBR 650 suits perfectly to the touring kinds in the country. Expect the CBR650 to undercut the pricing of its main rival, the Kawasaki Ninja 650R by about 30-40,000 INR and should be priced around 4.8-4.9 lakh ex-showroom.
