Is there a KTM 390 Adventure hiding somewhere in the future?

Snapshot: The much anticipated travel-friendly motorcycle from KTM might be unveiled at the Milan Motorcycle Show this November

Well, if the rumours from Pune are to be trusted, KTM has decided to listen to the millions of prayers of the travellers out there. A lot was said and wished for when the Duke 390 rolled out last year. The phenomenal power and the brilliant power delivery clubbed with ABS and the Metzelers blew everyone's mind. The 375cc engine delivered 44bhp and 35Nm of maximum torque, but there was a group of people that wanted a little extra in terms of ground clearance, a bigger fuel tank, shockers with more travel to negotiate the bad terrain found on the hills. Well, according to some of the rumours coming from Pune, there is a 390 Adventure that is being prepared. It is still not clear if it will ever see the light of the day in Indian market as there are some models that are made at the Chakan plant but not sold in India like the Duke 125. These models are very important for KTM financially as the margin between the manufacturing cost and the selling cost in international markets is huge.

The engine is expected to be the same, but a few changes to the gearbox can't be rules out as the tall gears of the Duke 390 might not be accepted well in its off-road avatar. A few changes to the chassis to make it more abuse-resistant are also possible. Rest all should be at a superficial level. New set of suspensions, exhaust and a bigger tank are a must. Keeping in mind the fact that it will be made in Pune and will share too many things with the Duke 390, it, if it does get launched in India, should not cost more than 40-50 extra grands than the price of the Duke 390 which is a little over 2 lakhs (on-road) in India.
