Isle of Man TT Global Dreams - World Series on Cards!
Snapshot: As the 'TT' Gets more fans across the world, the organizers plan to take the legendary race to a world series format!!
More than a century old motorcycle road racing circuit, the Isle of Man is probably the greatest place defining the extreme passion that drive us riders to the core. Considered to be the world's most dangerous race, Isle of Man TT is a race that defines absolute pinnacle of motorcyclism!
Isle of Man TT organisers have crossed the final political hurdle ahead of the launch of their new world series, which looks set to take the TT format across the world from 2017. The series will see a travelling cohort of 20-30 riders in Superbike, Supersport and Superstock take in up to six races across the globe, both in TT format as well as in mass start racing. Looking to get underway from 2017, the series will shake things around by running over the winter and culminating at the TT proper in June. The promoter, whose role will be opened to tender soon, will be in place to run the 2016 TT, with test events then planned for the winter of 2016/2017 before the full series launch the following year.
The intention is to build a platform that will increase the Isle of Man Government’s return on investment in the TT Races brand through sponsorship, television, licensing and hospitality, generate revenue earning opportunities for the competitors and teams who take part, and to provide economic and commercial benefits for the destinations and other commercial partners who host rounds. It will also seek to develop economic opportunities for the Island by promoting a greater awareness of the Isle of Man as a business jurisdiction.
Colin Kniveton, Chief Executive, Department of Economic Development commented: "Having held preliminary discussions with teams and riders about the event we are now looking to take the proposal to the next stage by seeking expressions of interest from suitable qualified businesses or individuals, with global motorsport experience, to provide the Department with an initial feasibility study which will set out the mechanics of how a TT World Series might operate. We believe that with the growing interest in the TT Races, the World Series has great potential both to generate revenue and also increase the profile of the Isle of Man and the TT Races."
Rounds are expected to take place mainly in Southern Hemisphere countries to benefit of their reversed summer, with Australia, South East Asia, South Africa and South America among the early favourites to hold rounds.
