Japanese auto maker, Isuzu has opened its new plant in India at SriCity, Andhra Pradesh and the new facility was inaugurated by Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The manufacturing plant is spread over an area of 107 acres with a production capacity of 50,000 units that can be further increased to 120,000 units in the future.
For setting up this Isuzu India invested Rs 3,000 crore The new plant will manufacture the new D-Max and D-Max V-Cross, both of which were showcased at the Auto Expo 2016. While the first Isuzu D-Max V-Cross was rolled out of the plant by the Chief Minister and Mr Masanori Katayama, President, Isuzu Motors Limited, marking the commencement of production at the new facility.
Speaking at the plant inauguration, Mr Masanori Katayama, President, Isuzu Motors Limited, said, “We are very happy to start our local manufacturing operations in India. India is one of the biggest automobile markets and also one of the fastest growing economies in the world. India is a key part of Isuzu Motors’ global growth strategy. This new plant in India will not only cater to the requirement of the growing Indian market, but in future it will also serve as a key manufacturing hub for Isuzu’s global operations.”
Commenting on this occasion, Mr Hiroyasu Miura, Chairman, Isuzu Motors India Pvt. Ltd., said, “the globally proven Isuzu D-Max pickup truck will be manufactured at this plant under high quality standards in line with Isuzu’s well acclaimed ‘Isuzu Manufacturing Management’ practices. We have found Indian suppliers to be capable of meeting Isuzu’s global quality standards and we will follow a high localization strategy for the manufacturing operation in India. Isuzu is in India for last 4 years studying the Indian market, understanding the Indian customer’s requirements and establishing the sales and service network. The inauguration of our manufacturing plant at SriCity is a major milestone in this journey and we look forward to an exciting future in India.”
Under the hood, the D-Max V-Cross is powered by a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine, delivering the power of 132bhp and torque of 320 Nm @ 1800-3200 rpm. The transmission system features a 5-speed manual gearbox with easy shift mechanism and the fly-by-shift mechanism for 4WD mode.
