Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India is planning to roll out a 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo-petrol engine which can be seen in the upcoming Range Rover Velar. The prices of the Velar were announced last week and the deliveries in India are expected to begin in January, 2018. After the Velar, this engine can also be seen onto other JLR products in the near future.

Currently, the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options are available in Jaguar XE, XF and XJ, the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque but these petrol engines are quite outdated as they are from the period when Jaguar and Land Rover were owned by Ford. The new four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engines have been designed wholly by JLR and are part of its modular Ingenium engine family. This 4 cylinder engine makes use of electro hydraulic valve train technology integrated with exhaust manifold. The British marque claims the new petrol engines delivers 25% more power with 15% reduction in fuel consumption.

JLR India has not provided a specific time for the engine updates in India, but 200hp and 250hp Ingenium units are expected to replace the current engines on the Jaguar XE,XF 20t and 25t models. The 250hp Ingenium will replace 240hp engine on the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque, in due time. The 250hp version of the new 2.0 petrol engine, as we expect will be offered on the Jaguar F-Pace. Strangely though, the Jaguar XJ has been left out from the engine update. There is a chance for the 300hp Ingenium petrol engine to make it to India on the Jaguar F-Type.

Velar has seen more interest than standard in India's luxury SUV class, Jaguar Land Rover has high expectations for petrol cars in the Indian market.
